WVU Cancer Institute at Berkeley Medical Center receives recognition for highest quality cancer care

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The WVU Cancer Institute at the Dorothy A. McCormack Center has earned certification from the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®), an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. The recognition underscores the center’s commitment to delivering high-quality cancer care to patients throughout the region.

“The recognition reflects the dedication of the entire oncology team, whose focus on safety, quality and evidence-based practices continues to elevate the patient experience,” said Joseph An, DO, medical oncologist with the WVU Cancer Institute. “We’re very proud of this achievement.”

To earn certification, the cancer center completed a voluntary, comprehensive site assessment and met the rigorous standards of the QOPI Certification Program. The practice was evaluated on key measures including safety, patient education, treatment planning, and chemotherapy administration. Additionally, the center was commended for its patient education program and integrated behavioral health model.

“We’re committed to bringing the best cancer treatment close to home for residents of the Eastern Panhandle,” said Samantha Spearing, regional director, WVU Cancer Institute. “We work closely with surgical and radiation oncology teams to ensure our patients receive care that meets nationally recognized standards.”
