39th Annual Bernie Hutzler Golf Classic raises record funds to expand access to care 

Event earns $131K for WVU Medicine Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Center expansion projects

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Under bright, sunny skies at Cress Creek Country Club, the 39th Annual Bernie Hutzler Golf Classic brought the community together for a day that was about much more than golf, it was about making a lasting impact. 

This year’s tournament delivered a record-breaking performance, raising more than $131,000, the highest total in the event’s history. 

From the first drive of the morning to the final putt in the afternoon, energy and enthusiasm filled the course as golfers and supporters rallied behind a shared mission: advancing access to care across the Eastern Panhandle for major expansion projects at WVU Medicine Berkeley and Jefferson Medical Centers. 

Top honors for the day included: 

  • Morning Flight Winners (16 under, 55): Steve McCahan, Ben Miles, Kendall Paige, Scott Armbrister
  • Afternoon Flight Winners (14 under, 57): Mitch Levorson, Shawn Neely, Rich Raposa, Ricky Robinson 

The success of this year’s tournament was driven by strong community support, led by presenting sponsor United Bank and reinforced by a growing network of partners committed to strengthening healthcare locally, as well as the dedication and efforts of the event’s volunteer committee, including Co-Chairs Bradley Freeman and Matt Stickel.

For nearly four decades, the Bernie Hutzler Golf Classic has honored a legacy of generosity and community impact. With this year’s record-setting performance, the tournament has now raised more than $2.1 million in total a milestone that speaks to the unwavering commitment of this community. 

Funds raised through the tournament will support major projects at Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center, advancing critical efforts to expand services and meet the evolving needs of the region.
