The WVU Medicine Center for Sleep Medicine, a department of Berkeley Medical Center, features eight rooms with Sleep Number® beds and private bathrooms for patient comfort and convenience.

“In designing the center, we tried to create a home-like environment for diagnosing sleep disorders,” David Fillman, system director of cardiopulmonary and sleep center, said.

Sleep disorders affect an estimated 29.4 million men and women. According to Fillman, there are many negative health conditions associated with undiagnosed, untreated sleep apnea, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes.

The center provides comprehensive services that identify and treat sleep related disorders, such as snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia and narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome, and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Testing at the center is performed by registered technologists, and studies are interpreted by board-certified sleep study physicians. Patients age 6 and older are accepted with a physician’s order.
