WVU Medicine expands self-scheduling capabilities

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Medicine patients are now able to schedule appointments with their primary care provider through the MyWVUChart patient portal or the WVU Medicine website.

Family on computerPatients can schedule appointments with Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Internal Medicine through this system, choosing a time that best fits their schedule.

“We want to provide the best possible care to our patients, and part of that is improving access to care by self-scheduling,” Michael Edmond, M.D., WVU Health System chief medical officer, said. “We understand that our patients have busy lives and often have to travel some distance to come to appointments. We want to make the scheduling process as easy as possible in order to reduce barriers to care.”

WVU Medicine patients have been able to schedule new patient appointments on the website and return patient appointments through MyWVUChart since early 2019, but the expanded capabilities allow patients to schedule both new and return visits through both platforms.

“Our patients are now able to see available appointments in real time and choose the appointments that fit their needs,” Dr. Edmond said. “This enables patients to schedule multiple appointments in the same day and reduce the need for extra trips to our facilities.”

There are plans to expand this system to include specialty clinics in the future.
