WVU Healthcare to host Community Day on Saturday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU Healthcare invites everyone to celebrate West Virginia’s 152nd birthday at Community Day at the new University Town Centre location. From noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20, the event will feature children’s activities, character appearances, a live radio broadcast, tours of the brand new facility, and more.

Kids can take a peek inside the HealthNet helicopter, the WVU Children’s Hospital ambulance, and a fire truck. The BoPARC Bounce House and Art Cart will also be available, along with face painting and games.

Several West Virginia University athletes, the WVU Mountaineer, Therapy Dogs, the West Virginia Black Bears mascot, Monti the Mountaineer Bear, Smokey the Bear, and Woodsy Owl will all join the celebration.

The community will also have the opportunity to meet healthcare professionals from WVU Healthcare’s Clark K. Sleeth Family Medicine Center, Pediatric and Adolescent Practice, Women’s Health, Dermatology, Podiatry, Center for Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine, Orthopaedics, and General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.

The U.S. Forest Service will help visitors learn how to keep West Virginia “Wild and Wonderful” by providing wildflower seeds. The Monongalia County Sheriff's Department will offer child seat safety inspections, while the West Virginia State Police will have child identification kits available.

WVAQ will broadcast live from the Community Day event. There will also be prizes, giveaways, free snacks, local food vendors, and the chance to learn about career opportunities at WVU Healthcare.

The WVU Healthcare clinics at the University Town Centre are operated by WVU Hospitals. The first clinics opened in the new location on May 4.
