WVU Healthcare nurses to hold 16th annual Community Drive

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The nurses at WVU Healthcare are kicking off their 16th annual Community Drive next week in collaboration with the United Way Day of Caring.

Donations will benefit Christian Help, which provides free clothing, food and emergency financial assistance to those in need in Monongalia and Preston counties.

“The Community Drive demonstrates the nurses’ commitment to give back to the community,” Dottie Oakes, M.S.N., WVU Healthcare vice president and chief nurse executive, said. “The drive allows us to be a very integral part of helping members of the community get back on their feet.”

Early donations for the drive will be collected weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, April 15, through Friday, April 30 at WVU Healthcare’s Volunteer Services Office located on the first floor of Ruby Memorial Hospital.

The following items are being collected: children’s back-to-school clothes (new or like new); new backpacks filled with school supplies; toiletries and personal care items; and scrubs for healthcare professionals.

The Community Drive is scheduled for 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at the former Foodland building located on the Mileground in Morgantown near John Howard Motors.
