WVU Children's Hospital to benefit from "Cuts for a Cause" at Nico Spalon

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Nico Spalon will host the 2013 “Cuts for a Cause” charity cut-a-thon from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 to raise money for WVU Children’s Hospital. The event is Nico Spalon’s largest community service project each year.

“We see this as an opportunity to use our entire space to raise money for a worthy cause,” said owner Nicholas Romanoli. “Whether it’s hair, art or music, we hope something connects with somebody.”

Several activities are planned during the event to provide many ways for people to participate in the cause. Attendees can have their hair cut and styled for a $20 donation, enjoy $1-a-minute chair massages or have their eyebrows waxed for a $5 donation. Services are being provided by Nico stylists, who will be assisted by students from Clarksburg Beauty Academy.

Those who attend “Cuts for a Cause” can also enjoy food donated by Morgantown area businesses and enter in raffles for a number of prizes, including a night’s stay at the Waterfront Place Hotel and dinner for two at the Regatta Bar and Grille.

Spalon clients will likely notice a big change to the studio’s walls: the artwork, all of which will be original designs by the patients at WVU Children’s Hospital. The staff at Nico visited the hospital on April 15 to paint with the children. The canvases will be on display during the event and can be purchased for a $10 minimum donation.

“This event is for them and we want them to be involved,” Romanoli said.

Ultimately, he hopes the event will inspire other salons to become more involved with their communities.

“We want other salons around the country to read and hear about ‘Cuts for a Cause’ and be inspired to do the same,” he said.

Appointments are not needed for this event. People interested in participating in this fundraiser can walk-in any time from noon to 5 p.m.

The salon is located at 80 South Pierpont Road. For more information on Nico Spalon and “Cuts for a Cause,” visit www.nicospalon.com or call 304-594-1550. Updated details of the event will be posted on the Nico Facebook and Twitter accounts (@nicospalon).
