Pallottine Missionary Sisters honored by Catholic Charities West Virginia

BUCKHANNON, WV – Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) celebrated its 2021 honoree, the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, at a luncheon in October. Accepting the award was Sister Mary Grace Barile, S.A.C.

The Pallottine Missionary Sisters came to America in 1912, inspired by the motto of their founder, St. Vincent Pallotti: “The love of Christ impels us.” They came to West Virginia to serve at the request of the Bishop of Wheeling. They opened a parish school and have established a number of hospitals, including Sacred Heart Hospital, St. Joseph’s Hospital, St. Vincent Pallotti Hospital, and St. Mary’s Hospital (now St. Mary’s Medical Center). Additionally, the Pallottine Missionary Sisters’ creation of two health foundations, the Pallottine Foundation of Huntington, and the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon, demonstrate the Sisters’ continuing commitment to health and wellness in communities across the state of West Virginia.
