New providers - September 2020

The following providers joined WVU Medicine in September:

Morgantown

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY

Nathan Ernst, PsyD, joins WVU Medicine as program director for neuropsychology at the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute Concussion Center. He completed a neuropsychology fellowship in the sports medicine concussion program at UPMC.

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Aaron Schneider, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician with the Acute Resources Group at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. Dr. Schneider previously practiced at the University of Kentucky where he also completed a residency.

GASTROENTEROLOGY

Shyam Thakkar, MD, joins WVU Medicine as the director of advanced endoscopy at Ruby. Dr. Thakkar was formerly medical director of the Multidisciplinary Pancreas Center and system director of endoscopy with the Allegheny Health Network. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship with emphasis in advanced endoscopy at Allegheny General and an additional advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at Harvard. 

NEUROSURGERY

Peter Konrad, MD, PhD, joins WVU Medicine as executive director of integrative neuroscience and clinical innovation, vice chair of the Department of Neurosurgery, and the J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital chair for the study of Neuroscience and Neurosurgery at the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. He will also serve as director of the Neural Device Center of Excellence. Dr. Konrad was a tenured professor in neurosurgery and biomedical engineering at Vanderbilt University and was the director of functional neurosurgery.

OPHTHALMOLOGY

Annahita Amireskandari, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a cornea specialist at the WVU Eye Institute where she completed a cornea, external diseases, and refractive surgery fellowship.  Dr. Amireskandari also completed a research fellowship at Indiana University.

ORTHOPAEDICS

Justin Lockrem, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a primary care and sports medicine physician at the University Town Centre clinic. He completed a fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill and an internal medicine and pediatrics residency at the University of Minnesota.

OTOLARYNGOLOGY

Monika Freiser, MD, MPH, joins WVU Medicine as an ear, nose, and throat specialist at the Physician Office Center and the Suncrest Towne Centre. Dr. Freiser is also the chief of VA services for the Department of Otolaryngology. She completed an ENT residency at UPMC.

Gassaway

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Stephen Keen, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician at Braxton County Memorial Hospital. Dr. Keen is the former assistant director of the emergency department at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn, North Carolina.

Summersville

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Stephen Keen, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician at Summersville Regional Medical Center. Dr. Keen is the former assistant director of the emergency department at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn, North Carolina.

Uniontown

EMERGENCY MEDICINE

Estuardo Aguialar, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an emergency medicine physician at Uniontown Hospital. He was previously with UPMC and completed a residency at Shadyside Hospital.

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Abdul Abbasi, MD, joins WVU Medicine as an interventional cardiologist at Uniontown Hospital. He is a former private practitioner with affiliations at St. Joseph Hospital, Franklin Square Hospital, and Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Waynesburg

DERMATOLOGY

Sarah Ellison Campbell, MD, joins WVU Medicine as a dermatologist at the Waynesburg Clinic. She completed a residency and earned her medical degree at WVU.
