New providers - April 2020

The following providers joined WVU Medicine in April:

BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE AND PSYCHIATRY

James Abel, MD, joins WVU Medicine as medical director of the United Summit Center. Dr. Abel is the former medical staff president and medical director of behavioral medicine at Fairmont Regional Medical Center in Fairmont, West Virginia.

HEART AND VASCULAR INSTITUTE

Ellis Salloum, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as a vascular surgeon in Morgantown, West Virginia. Dr. Salloum was most recently with St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho and CHI Franciscan Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Washington.

Penny Sappington, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as medical director of transplant critical care and a cardiac critical care physician in Morgantown, West Virginia. Dr. Sappington is the former medical director of the surgical ICU at UPMC.

Dean Wickel, MD, joins the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute as medical director of vascular surgery and as a vascular surgeon at Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia. Dr. Wickel was a former surgeon with Floyd Memorial Medical Group in New Albany, Indiana and a former chief of vascular surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center.

PEDIATRICS

Jean Someshwar, MD, joins WVU Medicine Children’s as division chief of adolescent medicine. Dr. Someshwar is a former WVU School of Medicine faculty member, and she was also a faculty member at George Washington University. Someshwar transferred to Children’s from the WVU Medicine Eastern Division.

HOSPITAL MEDICINE

Milind Awale, MD, and Paul Hohman, DO, join WVU Medicine as hospitalists at Wheeling Hospital. Dr. Hohman completed an internal medicine residency at Wheeling Hospital and then joined their staff. Dr. Awale practiced at Wheeling Hospital for several years.
