MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Children of all ages will be able to sit in, climb on, and explore all types of vehicles that roll into the WVU Coliseum parking lot on Saturday for the Sixth Annual Morgantown Touch-A-Truck fundraiser to benefit patients at the WVU Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine.
“We have some great additions to this year’s event,” Leah Darr, speaking on behalf of fellow event organizers Katie Martin and Sheila Powell, said. “In addition to the WVU HealthNet helicopter and an awesome truck from the Duracell Disaster Response Group, we will also have Batman, the Heroes 4 Higher Hope-mobile and Glotfelty Tires.”
Other familiar headlights and horns, such as buses, fire trucks, and cranes, will also be on hand, along with food and beverage vendors.
Since 2010, the Morgantown Touch-A-Truck has raised money to help local families fight cancer. All proceeds from this year’s event will support the Elroy C. Henry Endowment Fund the event organizers created at the WVU Cancer Center to make a lasting contribution in the fight against cancer. Named in memory of Darr’s grandfather, the Fund will be used to benefit cancer research and clinical trials. Since Darr and her co-organizers have held Touch-A-Truck, they’ve raised more than half of the $25,000 needed to fully fund the endowment and expect to reach their goal this year.
“We know that Granddad would be so proud that Touch-A-Truck is benefitting so many people who have cancer,” Darr said. “As we look back to our first year, we cannot find the words to express our gratitude enough to the community, businesses, organizations, WVU, and the Cancer Center for showing up each year to support cancer research in West Virginia.”
