The event, which is sponsored by the Mountain Loggers Cooperative Association (MLCA), is held as part of the Mountain State Forest Festival. Loads of logs and other donated items were sold at the auction under the names of the contributors. Proceeds from the auction are donated to WVU Children’s Hospital on behalf of the participating forestry and wood-products companies.
Last year, more than 60 companies and individuals participated in the auction and raised $35,000 for WVU Children’s Hospital. Over the last few years, the MLCA has contributed nearly $1.25 million to WVU Children’s Hospital.
“We are very grateful for the long-standing partnership we’ve had with the Mountain Loggers Cooperative Association over the years,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said. “With their help, we were able to remodel our lobby a few years ago, and with their continued support, we are able to provide high quality healthcare to children from West Virginia and the surrounding area.”
The Mountain Loggers Cooperative Associations Log-a-Load for Kids is a fund of Your Community Foundation, Inc. (YCF) a charitable, non-profit organization founded to encourage, consolidate, manage and foster permanent endowment funds and to administer charitable gifts to deserving individuals, groups and organizations in north-central West Virginia.
