Dr. Bardes’ arrival coincides with the arrival of the WVU Eye Institute’s new Wavelight® vision correction system. Bardes will be the lead physician offering LASIK procedures using the new device.

“It’s pretty exciting,” Lee Wiley, M.D., WVU Medicine Department of Ophthalmology interim chair said. “The new Wavelight machine is the most advanced refractive surgery platform in the tristate area. It is going to be a great opportunity for the WVU Eye Institute to have Dr. Bardes here as the lead refractive surgeon with the machine.”

The WVU Eye Institute Wavelight is the first to be made available in the state and has been shown to have better patient outcomes than earlier generations of LASIK technology. The Wavelight system allows for a more personalized LASIK procedure than past generations of equipment and offers a shorter procedure time.

In addition to performing LASIK, Bardes will be offering premium cataract surgery options to patients who desire to decrease their dependence on glasses after cataract surgery. This will include extended depth of focus lenses, as well as multifocal lenses.

Bardes comes to WVU Medicine from Acuity Eye Specialists, where she served as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. She completed a medical degree at the West Virginia University School of Medicine before her residency at the WVU Eye Institute.

“It is incredible to be able to come back to the WVU Eye Institute and work with the people who trained me during my residency,” Bardes said. “I look forward to being able to make a positive change in people’s lives by providing them the highest quality of refractive eye surgery available using the new Wavelight system.”
