Area Rite Aids raising funds for WVU Children’s Hospital through May 19

New mobile and social giving options available in addition to the traditional $1 paper Miracle Balloons sold in stores

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Beginning April 1, Rite Aid associates will be asking customers to purchase a $1 Miracle Balloon icon to support West Virginia University Children’s Hospital, a Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Rite Aid stores demonstrated a strong commitment to kids in their community by raising $68,000 for WVU Children’s Hospital during last year’s spring campaign and aim to raise at least that much this year.

Customers who purchase a Miracle Balloon will receive $7 worth of coupons for products sold at Rite Aid. Miracle Balloons will be available in all Rite Aid stores nationwide through May 19. A total of 125 Rite Aid stores across the region and one Rite Aid Distribution Center (in Poca, W.Va.) will be raising money for WVU Children’s Hospital.

For the first time, customers can text “RAKIDS” to 50555* to donate $5 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Rite Aid Facebook fans can also make a pledge to support their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital and share the pledge with their social networks. If 10,000 pledges are made, the Rite Aid Foundation will donate an additional $10,000 to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“Rite Aid associates, true to their core value, continue to display the qualities of a caring neighbor,” John Lauck, president and CEO of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, said. “Having raised more than $51 million for children’s hospitals since 1994, Rite Aid is making a significant difference for children and families in their own communities, and for that we are so grateful.”

All donations raised by Rite Aid stay local, benefitting 95 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the communities Rite Aid serves, including WVU Children’s Hospital. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals use the money raised by Rite Aid to provide critical care, purchase life-saving equipment, fund ground-breaking research and cover medical costs for uninsured or underinsured pediatric patients.
