MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Anne B. Ness, R.N., M.S.N., has been named manager of oncology clinical services at the West Virginia University Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (MBRCC) Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU).  

Ness, a registered nurse and certified clinical research professional, was formerly senior project analyst at University Hospitals (UH) Seidman Cancer Center, where she provided strategic and operational support to the Center’s Clinical Trials Research Unit.

The UH Seidman Cancer Center is part of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and is one of 12 freestanding cancer centers nationwide designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a comprehensive cancer center.

“I’m very excited about Anne joining us at the CTRU,” Manish Monga, M.D., medical director of the WVU Cancer Center Clinical Trials Research Unit, said. “Her experience at Case Western Reserve University and its NCI-designated cancer center will help us at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center move closer to our goal of becoming an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.”

Ness has more than 16 years’ experience in clinical research, mainly phase I through phase lll cancer trials, and more than eight years’ experience in management positions in clinical trials at Seidman. She also has extensive knowledge in the clinical, financial, database, and regulatory aspects of clinical trials.  

Before coming to WVU, MBRCC Director Scot C. Remick, M.D., was also at Case Western. Ness worked alongside him as clinical manager of the university’s HIV malignancies international clinical trials program and coordinated two international trials in East Africa focused on HIV malignancies.  

“We are delighted and very fortunate to have the ability to recruit a leader in the conduct of cancer clinical trials and research administration for our Clinical Trials Research Unit,” Dr. Remick said. “Anne brings a breadth of knowledge and experience that is hard to replicate in the cancer trials arena, spanning first-in-human studies; large cooperative group, pharmaceutical trials; and even international trials in sub-Saharan Africa.”  

“I’m impressed with the dedication of all of the members of the CTRU team at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center,” Ness said. “They each embody the true spirit of clinical trials, and I look forward to continuing to grow and improve clinical trial access to the MBRCC community.”
