Danielle M. Waltz to join WVU Medicine’s advocacy and government affairs team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Accomplished attorney, expert government relations executive, and West Virginia native Danielle M. Waltz will join the West Virginia University Health System as assistant vice president of government affairs and associate general counsel on Monday, September 23.

In this newly created position, Waltz will work closely with Karen Bowling, executive vice president of government affairs and president and CEO of WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital. 

“I am absolutely thrilled to have Danielle join the WVU Medicine family in this new leadership role and to work closely with me and other members of our senior leadership team in advocating for public policies that support our patients, providers, and hospitals,” Bowling said. “Danielle is highly respected by lawmakers from both legislative chambers and political parties in West Virginia, as well as senior officials within the Executive Branch – we are fortunate to have someone join our team who is so respected, accomplished, and committed to the success of West Virginia.”

A skilled litigator and government relations practitioner, Waltz is now a partner at Dinsmore, a leading national law firm based in Cincinnati, Ohio, with offices in 35 states. Her legal expertise spans a wide range of areas, and her leadership and accomplishments in the legal profession are further punctuated by her published works and speaking engagements focusing on both legal and government relations matters. 

Waltz was elected last year as national director for DRI, the largest association of civil defense attorneys and in-house counsel, where she has held numerous leadership positions. She is also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel.

Waltz is from West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle and is a two-time graduate of West Virginia University, where she was a 1999 Foundation Scholar, with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, cum laude, and a law degree. She is an avid fan of Mountaineer sports and serves on several boards and committees of West Virginia not-for-profit organizations, including the Childhood Language Learning Center.
