Holiday cards mark 20 years of raising money for pediatric cancer patients
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For two decades, people all across the country have been supporting the fight against childhood cancer just by giving and receiving holiday cards designed by pediatric cancer patients and their siblings at West Virginia University Children’s Hospital.Cards of Hope are the main funding source for the Cure Kids Cancer Fund, a project of WVU Children’s Hospital that ensures patients are provided state-of-the-art medical care, as well as psychological and social support for them and their families. Card sales also benefit the Beads of Courage program, which allows pediatric cancer patients the opportunity to tell their cancer stories through strings of beads.
“Cancer is a terrible disease that no child or family should have to fight alone. Thanks to everyone who has purchased Cards of Hope, we’ve been able to help our cancer patients and their families fight the toughest battles of their lives,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said. “We are so grateful for the businesses and individuals that continue to purchase and sponsor Cards of Hope year after year. It’s been an amazing 20 years, and we’re looking forward to the next 20 and beyond.”

Cards are sold in packages of 20 with 21 envelopes. The holiday cards can be purchased in packages of one design or the collection package, which contains two of each card.
In addition to the holiday cards, there is also an all-occasion card that was designed by Izabella (age 4), Zoe (age 6) and Zavery (age 9) McManaway of Fayetteville. The card features a butterfly on the front and is blank on the inside. This design can be purchased in a package of 20 cards with 21 envelopes.
All packages of cards – either single designs or collections – are $15. Cards can be purchased online at www.cardsofhope.com or by phone at 304-598-4346 ext. 2. They can also be purchased in the Friends Gift Shop in Ruby Memorial Hospital and Old Navy at the University Town Center.
The Kroger Co. has provided underwriting for this year’s Cards of Hope project. This means that 100 percent of every package of cards sold will help pediatric cancer patients and their families.
