We can help!

WVU Medicine is making it easier than ever before for employees (and family members) enrolled in a WVU Medicine medical plan to get medical care.

Consider a virtual visit with a WVU Medicine Care Connection provider. From a secure connection via a smartphone, computer, or tablet, we can discuss your symptoms with an e-visit or video visit. And don’t forget that our nurse navigators are just a phone call away (1-844-484-2360).

WVU Medicine Care Connection is a FREE program. It allows you to access care from nearly anywhere, at any time, saving time and money. Patients in West Virginia can receive care via virtual video visits and e-visits, while nurse navigators are available for patients in every state except Alaska, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Oregon, and Rhode Island.

The nurse navigators (nurses on call) are available 24/7 at 1-844-484-2360. These registered nurses provide immediate expert medical advice — for FREE. Here are some reasons to consider using this service:

  • You or someone you care for is feeling unwell
  • You have some questions about your medical condition
  • You have an acute worsening of your medical condition and don’t know what to do
  • You are not sure if you should seek medical help
  • Your doctor’s office is closed and you need medical advice

In addition to answering questions, nurse navigators (nurses on call) will advise callers to seek medical care when appropriate, and they can assist with scheduling appointments. There may be times when an e-visit is recommended. Nurse navigators are available for patients in every state except Alaska, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Oregon, and Rhode Island.

E-visits are easily available through MyWVUChart for these conditions:

  • Back pain
  • Cough
  • COVID (public/community)
  • COVID (WVU Medicine employees only)
  • Diarrhea (adult and pediatric)
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Heartburn
  • Lice (pediatric)
  • Rash
  • Red eye (adult and pediatric)
  • Ringworm (pediatric)
  • Sinus issues
  • Swimmer’s ear (pediatric)
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Vaginal discharge

Once you log in, just follow a guided questionnaire, providing information that will either be forwarded to your primary care provider or the first available provider based on your selection. The provider will advise patients on the proper course of action. The response time on an e-visit will be no longer than six business hours if handled by your own provider. If the Urgent Care model is used, a response can be expected within three hours when the call occurs between 8 a.m. and 11 p.m. This service is FREE. Due to state licensing requirements, you must be physically located in West Virginia at the time of receiving the service.

Urgent Care video visits are available for patients (children and adults) who are enrolled in a WVU Medicine medical plan and who are in West Virginia or Pennsylvania at the time of service. During a video visit, the patient can use Urgent Care video visits to meet face-to-face with a healthcare provider for acute, non-emergent needs, including coughs, colds, rashes, aches, and pains. Using a tablet, smartphone, or computer equipped with internet access and web camera, the patient can see a healthcare provider from home, work, or nearly any location in between.

To schedule a video visit, go to Urgent Care video visits. Due to state licensing requirements, you must be physically located in West Virginia or Pennsylvania at the time of receiving the service.

The Care Connection program was created to complement employees’ healthcare experience. The goal is to use the right care team to provide the right services at the right time.
