Center provider, Dr. Mark Cucuzzella, a family doctor and champion marathoner who has advocated for the change for years, likens the change to when the hospital eliminated smoking for its campus. It only makes sense for the hospital to lead the way on sugary drinks.“Sugar-sweetened beverages are the leading source of added sugar in the American diet, and the biggest driver of our state and nation’s obesity epidemic, as well as diabetes and so many other chronic health problems,” said Cucuzzella, who’s also professor at the WVU School of Medicine. “If we want to improve the overall health of our communities, it must start with us in the healthcare community.” Read more about the hospital initiative!
