How soon should I begin applying for positions within WVUH?
WVU Medicine recommends applying to Registered Nurse positions no more than 3 months prior to your expected graduation.

I cannot find a Graduate Nurse position title. Do I apply to Registered Nurse positions?
Yes, please apply to any Registered Nurse position you are interested in. We do not post Graduate Nurse positions. Please indicate in your application and resume your anticipated month of graduation.

How can I increase the strength of my application and resume?
Including a section in your resume discussing your clinical experiences through your education can strengthen your resume. This information should include the location of the clinical, semester completed, unit type, patient population, and length of time spent on the unit. This helps the Nurse Recruiters better understand your skill set and areas of interest for placement.

Is there an opportunity to shadow on a unit prior to being interviewed?
Currently we do not have a shadow program in place for prospective candidates. However, if you are selected to interview and the manager from that unit is also interested in your application, you may be invited back to spend time on the unit prior to an offer of employment being made.

Are there certain units that do not consider Graduate Nurses?
Yes, there are several units that prefer applications from experienced nurses. However, in general, our Med/Surg, Step-down, and ICUs will consider Graduate Nurse applications. Other nursing areas consider graduate nurse applications on a case-by-case basis.

I plan to continue my education. Do you have a tuition reimbursement/assistance program?
Yes, after one year of employment you are eligible to apply for tuition reimbursement. Funds are provided after the completion of approved coursework.

Can I check the status of my application online?
WVU Medicine receives a high volume of applications on a daily basis. You can check the status of your application online by logging into your account and checking your submitted applications. A status will be listed for each application to indicate if we are currently reviewing your information, will be contacted by Human Resources, or if you were not selected.

I have already uploaded my resume. Do I need to upload each time I apply?
No, one general resume is sufficient for your candidate profile. If you make changes and would like to do upload your revised resume, you may do so at any time. If you would like to remove an old resume from your file, please contact wvuhjobs@wvumedicine.org and specify which document should be deleted.

I plan to sit for my NCLEX or have recently obtained my RN License in another state. Will I still be considered for an opportunity with WVUH?
Yes, we consider all nursing applications regardless of where licensure is being obtained or currently held. Offers of employment can be made contingent upon receipt of your WV RN License. Please visit wvrnboard.com for licensure information in the state of West Virginia.

I am interested in applying to several units; do I need to apply to each opening available on that unit?
No, we suggest you apply to at least one opening per unit of interest. This will help the nurse recruiters determine what you are truly looking for. However, if upon checking your application status you see you no longer have an active application, we suggest re-applying to another open position on that unit. This will ensure your name remains active in our candidate pool.
