POSITION SUMMARY:  Under general supervision of Director and Project Coordinator, paints and redecorates walls, woodwork, furniture and equipment, and performs various maintenance duties at the hospital and off-site facilities. Works closely with other maintenance personnel and personnel in most departments of the hospital.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EXPERIENCE:
1. Three years of experience in painting and maintenance work required.
2. Must have thorough knowledge of painting and maintenance of equipment/repairs. Sufficient time will be allowed to become familiar with hospital equipment and facilities.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High school education or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Previous training in construction trades desirable.

  1.             Mix, match, and apply paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, and other finishes to various surfaces (i.e., canvas, walls, floors, doors, cabinets, etc.).
  2.             Protect surfaces as appropriate with cloth or plastic to ensure protection of surrounding areas.
  3.            Clean and prepare walls to ensure proper adherence which may require scraping, sanding, priming, sealing, filling cracks and holes using putty, plaster, or other fillers.
  4.             Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting; replace fixtures at completion of the project.
  5.             Follow manufacturer’s instructions to assure maximum coverage of surfaces; applies touchup paint and second coats as needed.
  6.            Remove paint splatters when finished; clean all equipment, including brushes and spray guns.
  7.            Perform preventative maintenance activities: repair plumbing sytems, air handling systems, dietary & laundry equipment, and steam handling equipment, repair structural elements, as assigned.
  8.             Perform monitoring and measurement of water treatment systems, as assigned.
  9.             Perform boiler operator duties, as assigned.
 10.           Install new or replacement equipment.
 11.           Perform routine inspection of facility for safety and disrepair.
 12.           Perform other painting and maintenance related duties, as assigned.

1. Work is generally performed in both an office and outdoor environment, with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. Frequent sitting, reaching, walking, standing, lifting, stooping, or carrying of equipment and materials may be required. May be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
2. May require erecting scaffolding, movable and immovable staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas; moves furniture and equipment as necessary.
3. Works on ladders to reach high ceilings or walls using proper safety measures.

1. Possess thorough knowledge of painting techniques and basic maintenance repair processes.
2. Uses accepted standards of safety while performing assigned duties.
