Student tours scheduled for June 17 and July 13
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Students from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry will help children of all ages solve the mysteries of the mouth when they conduct tours of “Your Spitting Image” at the Clay Center in Charleston.“Your Spitting Image” is an innovative and interactive three-part exhibition from The Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry. Children who tour the exhibit will learn how to solve mysteries using forensic technology, discover the health secrets revealed by saliva, explore remarkable advances in oral health made possible by the science of bioengineering, find out how good oral health affects the whole body and learn how to have a healthy mouth for a lifetime.
Students in the WVU Pediatric Dentistry Club will give tours of the exhibit from noon to 5 p.m. on June 17. Second-year dental students will conduct tours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 13.
“This exhibit is an exceptional way to learn more about how important the mouth is to our overall health,” David Felton, D.D.S., dean of the WVU School of Dentistry, said. “Our dental students are terrific ambassadors for the School of Dentistry and are well trained to help children of all ages learn about this important relationship.”
“Your Spitting Image” will be at the Clay Center through Sept. 2. It is underwritten by the WVU School of Dentistry through a grant from the Benedum Foundation. Last year, the School hosted an exhibit called “Mouth Power,” which was viewed by more than 7,000 Clay Center visitors.
Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Gallery admission is free for members or $6 for children and $7.50 for adults.
