WVU’s National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health offers wellness retreat in Wetzel County

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health is inviting women in Wetzel County and the surrounding area to spend a day focusing on their well-being and personal empowerment. The Women on Wellness (WOW) retreat on Saturday, Oct. 16  is a day for and about women.

The keynote speaker is Shawn Tipton, a nurse practitioner at Wetzel County Hospital, who will discuss women’s heart health. Several sessions are being led by other Wetzel County Hospital healthcare providers, such as breast health and mammography and long-term care considerations. Those who attend the retreat can also get information on local resources, including massage, nutrition and yoga.

“We are delighted to offer this day to women in the New Martinsville area,” Betty Critch, executive director of the National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, said. “Not only will women have the refreshing experience of balancing mind, body and soul, but also the information they receive will help them lead their families to a healthy lifestyle. WOW retreats don’t promote specific brands of diet or exercise but promote principles that help guide women to make healthful choices.”

This program is funded in part by a donation made by Dr. Mary “Wynn” Hill in memory of Hundred resident Virginia Stewart.

Those who plan to attend should wear loose, comfortable clothing for a full day of lifestyle enrichment including a nutritious breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. The retreat begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. and will be at West Virginia Northern Community College in New Martinsville.
