WVU Medicine announces Fall Into Fitness Program

MARTINSBURG, W.VA. - The start of fall is almost like January 1. It’s a new season, school is starting, and it’s a good time to start a regular exercise routine before the rush of the holidays hit. The Wellness Center at WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center and Healthy Berkeley are offering Fall Into Fitness to help you get active and healthy this fall. This 13 weeks of fitness and health challenges will be held Sept. 22-Dec. 21.

The 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines recommend that adults should get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate intensity aerobic physical activity. Moderate physical activities are activities that can be done while talking but not singing. The equivalent is walking briskly at 3-4 miles per hour pace.

The purpose of Fall Into Fitness is to help participants reach the goal of 150 minutes a week of physical activity along with encouraging other healthy behaviors. The program can be done by anyone and done anywhere.

Members of The Wellness Center at Berkeley Medical Center will be able to use the new Technogym software to track their exercise. Members of The Wellness Center using the Technogym system will be recording MOVES. The goal will be 3,000 MOVES a week.

Go to www.healthyberkeley.com for the registration form or stop by The Wellness Center front desk.  Also, go to the Healthy Berkeley Facebook page and like the program event page for information, resources, and to see the weekly challenges posted by Friday of each week, Fall Into Fitness Fridays (FFF).  All challenges will be posted on Facebook, no emails will be sent.

Thos who achieve 150 minutes a week (or 3,000 MOVES a week for The Wellness Center members) for at least eight of the 13 weeks of the program will receive a Healthy Berkeley infuser water bottle. For each FFF Challenge achieved, participants earn an entry in the random prize drawing. Those who post a picture or comment of how they achieved the FFF Challenge on the Healthy Berkeley Facebook page will receive an extra entry in the random prize drawing for healthy prizes.
