WVU Hospitals event for United Way is October 7

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – . “Fall Into the Spirit of Living United” is the theme of the 2010 United Way Fall Fest event for the community and West Virginia University Hospitals employees, Thursday, Oct. 7 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on front lawn of WVU’s Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Activities include a pumpkin-carving contest, a fall photo contest and a bake sale. Employees and visitors can also purchase raffle tickets ($1 each or six for $5) for the chance to win prizes including WVU football tickets, a spa package and day passes to Rich Farms in Smithfield, Pa.  

Breakfast items are 50 cents each, and lunch and dinner meals are $3 each. Snacks, such as popcorn and Cold Stone ice cream, are also available.

Proceeds from the festival benefit the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties. The goal is to raise $125,000 in employee donations. In addition, a $25,000 corporate donation will be given.

“It’s not just an annual fund-raising campaign,” Teri Batis, director of Volunteer Services at WVUH and co-chair of the United Way campaign, said. ”Our employees are passionate about giving back to the community in which they live and work. It’s part of the culture here at WVU Healthcare.”
