MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation recently awarded the WVU Eye Institute a grant of $73,647 to continue its Children’s Vision Outreach Program (CVRP) in the Greater Kanawha Valley area.
By working with community partners, children with incurable vision loss in this area will be able to receive vision evaluations, support, devices and instructions.
The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation has provided the WVU Eye Institute grants since 2004 to support children’s low vision rehabilitation in the Greater Kanawha Valley area.
“We are grateful for the continued support the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation provides the WVU Eye Institute to help children with low vision receive the same opportunities as their sighted peers. Providing them the resources to grow into independent, employable adults is not only good for them, it’s good for the state,” Ronald L. Gross, M.D., director of the WVU Eye Institute and chair of the WVU Department of Ophthalmology, said.
The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation was created in 1962 by and for the people of the Greater Kanawha Valley area and encompasses a six-county region. It is the largest community foundation in West Virginia, and it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012.
The vision of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation is to enrich the lives of those it serves – its contributors, beneficiaries and community – by being the premier provider of philanthropic and charitable services for all citizens in the region.
“The Foundation is pleased to partner with the WVU Eye Institute to provide quality care for the children with low-vision needs in the Kanawha Valley,” Becky Ceperley, president and CEO of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, said.
The gift was made through the WVU Foundation, the private non-profit corporation that generates and provides support for West Virginia University. The Foundation is currently conducting A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University – a $750 million private fundraising effort on behalf of WVU.
