WVU Children’s Hospital to receive more than $157,000 from Kohl’s

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Kohl’s Department Stores will present a check for $157,299 to the Healthy Babies Program at West Virginia University Children’s Hospital at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Kohl’s store on Emily Drive in Clarksburg. Since 1999, Kohl’s has donated $724,062 to WVU Children’s Hospital.

“We are so grateful to Kohl’s for its continued support of our efforts to provide high quality care to children and families throughout West Virginia,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said. “The Healthy Babies Program is vital to helping new moms and dads adjust to life as parents. With the funds donated by Kohl’s, we will continue to provide them with this education.”

The Healthy Babies Program at WVU Children’s Hospital provides new and expecting parents across the state of West Virginia with education and support related to parenting, infant care and development and community programs. The program addresses topics such as crying, Shaken Baby Syndrome, car seat safety, postpartum depression and safe sleeping.

At the event, Christine Haufe, R.N., community health nurse clinician at WVU Children’s Hospital, will be educating parents on infant health and injury prevention. She will have a trio of infant simulators with her – Shaken Baby Syndrome baby, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome baby and drug withdrawal baby – to provide live demonstrations for families.

Kohl’s commitment to WVU Children’s Hospital is made possible through the Kohl’s Cares cause merchandise program. Through this initiative, Kohl’s sells books and plush toys with 100 percent of net profit benefitting children’s health and education programs nationwide, including hospital partnerships like this one. Kohl’s has raised more than $150 million dollars through this merchandise program.

In addition, Kohl’s Cares features a scholarship program, which has recognized more than 13,000 kids and awarded more than $2.6 million in scholarships and prizes to date; the Associates in Action program, which encourages associate volunteerism and provided more than $35 million nonprofit organizations throughout the nation; and fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving organizations with up to 5 percent of the total card purchase price going back to those organizations.
