Southwestern Energy raises $96K for WVU Medicine Children’s

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Southwestern Energy (SWN) sponsored the 2016 Southwestern Energy Charity Golf Tournament to benefit WVU Medicine Children’s on Aug. 25 at Lakeview Golf Resort and Spa in Morgantown.

Seventy different vendors in West Virginia’s oil and gas sector participated, and more than 200 people were involved in the event. Through the generosity of the participants and sponsors, SWN was able to donate $96,000 to support the sick and injured children at WVU Medicine Children’s.

“It’s very important to Southwestern Energy to be involved in the community, and we value our partnership with WVU Medicine Children’s and the great work they are doing,” Chris Flanagan, area manager for Southwestern Energy’s West Virginia Division, said.

This year marked the second consecutive year that Southwestern has donated to WVU Medicine Children’s. Last year’s golf outing raised $130,000.

“We are once again very grateful for the generosity of the employees at Southwestern Energy, and we appreciate their interest in ensuring that all children from West Virginia and the surrounding region have access to high quality care when they need it,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Medicine Children’s, said. “We look forward to this partnership growing even stronger in the future.”

SWN takes its focus on producing energy beyond the drill site by harnessing the power of its people and the philanthropy of the industry to create positive change. Through its corporate-wide giving program, Social Energy, SWN is strengthening the company’s social impact through volunteerism and charitable giving.
