The four students selected were Sabryn Franklin from Hedgesville High School, Jillian Linton and Sarah Robertson from Spring Mills High School, and Tiffany Nguyen from Martinsburg High School.

Proceeds from the 2017 tennis classic were used to establish a one-time $2,000 scholarship to be awarded to graduating seniors from the six public high schools in Berkeley and Jefferson counties studying pre-med in the fall of 2018.

“We want to encourage and assist area youth interested in becoming physicians,” Dr. Reyna said. “Because this tournament was established in 2004 by a group of local physicians, the committee felt it was appropriate to establish a scholarship to support local students pursuing a career in medicine.”

The tennis classic was renamed in 2015 in memory of Dr. Sabado, who was one of the founding members and served as the event’s chair. The Frank Sabado, Jr., M.D., Tennis Classic is held the second Saturday in September at St. James School. For more information, call 304-264-1223.
