MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Breakfast is the most important meal of the day — especially on Tuesday, March 3. Hungry IHOP patrons can kick-start their metabolisms while supporting West Virginia University Children’s Hospital at Ruby Memorial.

More than 1,500 IHOP restaurants nationwide will celebrate National Pancake Day by offering guests a free short stack of its signature buttermilk pancakes. Guests will then be given an opportunity to make a donation to IHOP’s national charity partner, Children’s Miracle Network (CMN), a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children’s hospitals across North America.

Funds raised at seven IHOP restaurants will benefit WVU Children’s Hospital, which is the only CMN hospital in West Virginia. Participating restaurants include Morgantown, Bridgeport, South Charleston, Charleston, Barboursville, Beckley, and Ashland, Ky.

The event runs from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. There is a limit of one free short stack per guest, and the offer is valid at participating restaurants for dine-in only while supplies last. It is not valid with any other offer, special, coupon, or discount.

Pancake Day is a tradition that dates back several centuries to when the English prepared for fasting during Lent. Strict rules prohibited the eating of all dairy products during Lent, so pancakes were made to use up the supply of eggs, milk, butter, and other dairy products, hence the name Pancake Tuesday, or Shrove Tuesday. The IHOP National Pancake Day honors this tradition while supporting a worthy cause.
