MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Mary J. Huntley, M.P.H., has been named assistant director for operations of the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI).
WVCTSI, headquartered on the West Virginia University campus in Morgantown, is a collaborative effort among educators, researchers, healthcare providers and others to bring the benefits of health research to people and communities across the state. In-state partners, in addition to WVU, include Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC), the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, the West Virginia United Health System and WVU Healthcare.
For the past 10 years, Huntley has directed the Office of Research and Grants Administration at CAMC Health Education and Research Institute, Inc. In that position she worked closely with researchers and physicians at the WVU Charleston Division.
“Mary Huntley has been an active member of WVCTSI’s statewide leadership team since its founding three years ago,” said Uma Sundaram, M.D., the organization’s director, who announced the appointment. “She served as the point person for WVU Charleston campus and CAMC and helped us develop our guidelines for research ethics and regulatory compliance. Her knowledge and experience will be crucial to our goal of involving health providers around the state with research that benefits their patients.”
She will join the organization’s staff on July 30.
Huntley, in addition to her research role at CAMC, has held a number of administrative and leadership posts in her career. At the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, where she served from 1986 to 2001, she directed the Office of Health Planning, established and directed the Office of Rural Health Policy and directed the Office of Community and Rural Health Services.
She has served as a grant reviewer for the federal Health Resources and Service Administration and for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. She is also president-elect of the West Virginia Rural Health Association.
Huntley is a graduate of WVU with a degree in social work, and earned a master’s of public health at Tulane University.
