MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Hindu Religious and Cultural Center in Morgantown will hold its annual Gandhi Day Walkathon from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. Proceeds from the walk will benefit WVU Children’s Hospital. The walk will extend from Marilla Park to the Hazel Ruby-McQuain Riverfront Park and back.
Each year, the Humanitarian Committee at the Center organizes a walkathon in memory of Mahatma Gandhi, a global icon of peace, non-violence and humanity. The Center then donates the funds raised to a local charity. Last year’s walk included nearly 100 people and raised approximately $1,500 for the Scott’s Run Settlement House.
“We are always very happy to create new partnerships with organizations throughout the Morgantown community and the state,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said. “We appreciate the Hindu Religious and Cultural Center selecting us as the beneficiary of their walk this year and hope we can maintain this newly created partnership long into the future.”
