Dr. Luke Higgins joins WVU Medicine Interventional Radiology

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Luke J. Higgins, M.D., Ph.D., has joined WVU Medicine’s Interventional Radiology Department.

“We are very pleased to have Dr. Higgins join our interventional radiology team,” Ansaar T. Rai, M.D., director of Interventional Neuroradiology, said. “He is very well trained and brings significant expertise to the service. Apart from the clinical care, Dr. Higgins has interest and research experience in novel minimally invasive treatment of tumors and will be a great addition to the WVU Cancer Institute.”

Higgins received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, then went on to earn his Ph.D. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He performed his post-doctoral research at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and then earned his M.D. from the Stanford University School of Medicine. After an internship at MedStar Harbor Hospital, he completed his radiology residency at Johns Hopkins and a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at Stanford.

To date, Higgins has authored and co-authored more than two dozen abstracts, textbook chapters, and other peer-reviewed publications.

Higgins officially joined the staff of WVU Medicine yesterday (July 27).
