Dr. Macrina’s long-standing scientific interests have been in the molecular pathogenesis of infectious diseases. His research at VCU was continuously supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for 33 years, and his NIH funding included Research Career Development and MERIT awards from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
He’s authored numerous publications, including the widely used text, “Scientific Integrity, Text and Cases in Responsible Conduct of Research.” His current scholarly interests also include behavioral and educational research in scientific ethics.
Macrina earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and his doctorate from Syracuse University. He completed postdoctoral training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
His presentation, “Digitizing the Research Coin of the Realm,” will begin at 3 p.m. in the Fukushima Auditorium.
The Hardesty Lecture was established in honor of former WVU President David C. Hardesty, Jr., and his wife, Susan Brown Hardesty. The series, which brings renowned cancer scientists and physicians to the WVU campus, is a tribute to the couple’s service to their alma mater and their impact on the university’s growth and development.
