Celebrate National Doctor’s Day on March 30

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Patients can honor their doctors on National Doctor’s Day, Saturday, March 30. WVU Healthcare has established a place on the Internet for patients to express their appreciation for WVU faculty physicians.

The tradition was established in 1842 to recognize the first use of anesthesia in a surgical procedure; Doctor’s Day has grown to honor doctors across the country.

National Doctor’s Day gives patients a chance to show their gratitude for their physicians’ role in caring for the sick and contributing to the advancement of medicine.

This year marks the eighth annual observance of Doctor’s Day here.  Since the yearly celebrations began in 2006, WVU Healthcare physicians have received hundreds of messages of thanks and appreciation from current and former patients.

Patients and families can go online to www.hsc.wvu.edu/drday where they can write a brief message to one more physicians or make a gift in a physician’s honor to support WVU Healthcare.

Each honored physician will receive a certificate including the patient’s written expression of appreciation and will be recognized at WVU Healthcare’s Doctor’s Day celebration.

This year, Doctor’s Day will be celebrated with a reception from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 30 in the cafeteria on the fourth floor of Ruby Memorial Hospital.
