MARTINSBURG, W.VA. - Eleanor Jones, president of the WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center Auxiliary, recently announced the 2017 Landis Health Professions Scholarship recipients.
Three of the 10 recipients are graduating seniors, while seven are re-applicants from previous years. The new recipients are Makenna Castro, Musselman High School; Nazene Hunter, Martinsburg High School; and Sydney Shaw, Spring Mills High School. Castro will attend WVU majoring in nursing, Hunter will attend WVU majoring in pre-med, and Shaw will attend Shepherd University majoring in nursing.
The seven re-applicants include Paige Barker, Valerie Benavides, Jada Brown, Adam Hull, Claire Linton, Lauren Linton, and Raven Powers. Each of the scholarship recipients has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship to the college/university he/she will be attending this fall.
The Landis Scholarship program was established by the Berkeley Medical Center Auxiliary in 2003 as a result of an endowment from the Virginia Landis Estate. The $1,000 scholarship is given to qualified and selected students graduating from the four Berkeley County public high schools studying one of the following health professions – nursing, pre-med, pharmacy, and dentistry.
Recipients are eligible to re-apply for up to four years. The executive committee of the Berkeley Medical Center Auxiliary selects the recipients annually.
