Provides clearer, more accurate images of breast

Breast tomosynthesis, also known as 3D mammography, is a breakthrough in mammography that provides a clearer, more accurate view compared to digital mammography alone. Breast tomosynthesis takes multiple images of the entire breast and allows specialized breast radiologists to see through layers of tissue and examine areas of concern from all angles.

Benefits include:

  • Clearer images of dense breast tissue
  • Earlier detection of small breast cancers that may be hidden during digital mammography
  • Fewer unnecessary biopsies or additional tests
  • Greater accuracy in pinpointing size, shape, and location of abnormalities

The only healthcare facilities that offer 3D mammography in north central West Virginia are the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center and the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.
