Nutritional Counseling Services
A Registered Dietitian is available to provide individualized nutritional counseling, Monday through Friday. She focuses on assessing dietary and nutritional needs and providing practical advice such as:
- Nutritional needs during treatment
- Management of eating problems such as taste changes, loss of appetite, dry mouth
- Tube Feeding adjustments
- Involuntary weight loss
- Involuntary weight gain
Many patients already have restricted diets due to diabetes, heart disease or hypertension and are uncertain if more restrictions are now necessary due to the diagnosis of cancer. A brief meeting with the dietitian can address this.
At times due to the side effects of treatment, patients may benefit from a nutritional supplement. The registered dietitian has a variety of samples available to try. MBRCC is also able to offer certain products to its Oncology patients at a discounted price. The registered dietitian will assess patients to see if they qualify for this program.
She is also available to provide direction post-treatment to minimize the risk of recurrence. Eating a balanced diet, maintaining a healthy body weight and staying active are all ways to improve your long-term health.
Eating and drinking the right foods and liquids during and after cancer treatment can help a person maintain strength, repair and rebuild damaged tissue and have a better quality of life. If you are interested in meeting with our registered dietitian, please call 598-4549.
