The WVU Heart and Vascular Institute is providing free health screenings to the public, along with personal fitness instruction and one-on-one nutrition and pharmacy consultations. Additional testing and consultations with a physician are also available if needed. Available free screenings and assessments include:

  • Blood Pressure
  • Cholesterol*
  • Glucose*
  • Body Mass Index
  • EKG

*Fasting is preferred but not required. Free bloodwork only available to the first 400 participants.

WHY HEALTH SCREENINGS ARE IMPORTANT FOR YOU

Heart disease is the No.1 killer of women.

According to the American Heart Association, and estimated¬†44 million women in the U.S. are affected by cardiovascular disease. The fact is: Heart disease is the No.1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute!**

90% of women have one or more risk factors for heart disease or stroke.

Women have a higher lifetime risk of stroke than men. Fewer women than men survive their first heart attack. Symptoms of heart attack can be different in women than men, and are often misunderstood–even by some physicians.**

Knowing your risk factors and taking action can make a difference.

More people are now considered to have high blood pressure, according to new guidelines recently released by the American Heart Association. It’s estimated that twice as many women who are between the ages of 20 and 44 have high blood pressure. Studies have shown that 80% of heart disease and stroke events may be prevented by lifestyle changes and education. Take action now..**
